The Alienation of The Worker

This topic is a little old compared but it still fascinates me.  It is rather an easy observation to make however when we first talked about how the laborer himself is bought and sold just like the goods he produces that blew my mind.  In today's market, goods can be bought and sold and competition as well as supply and demand determines the value, availability and pricing of goods.  Every aspect of this can also be applied to the worker.  It is something I never really thought about until this class and it was very intriguing.  I do disagree with regards to what we call labor.  Labor is a free conscious human activity and in class we made it seem to be that labor should be a happy endeavor or one that we should look forward to every day.  For some people this is labor and it rightfully should be but humans are competitive people, especially in this nation.  Whether through sports or in the job market, I found my work to be tough and strenuous.  My major is difficult, engineering is very tough and very competitive; it is tough labor that produces happy results of allowing me to (in the future) to provide for my family.  I hear way too much about teens complaining how tough things are in school and how everything from their classes to a job, should be easy and everything should be carefree.  Providing for yourself and your family is extremely tough.  Labor is in many cases not easy, and it should not be.  There have always been and always will be tough jobs and lifestyles however if that is what it takes to for me to support myself and  my family then so be it.
