Human Beings Will Never Believe In Hedonism

During class this week, I had a recurring thought about how no human being would ever choose to believe in “hedonism.” Hedonism is the belief in maximizing pleasure and minimizing pain. Epicureans believe in hedonism and warn against over-indulgence. I believe that human beings naturally thrive off having extremely high highs and low lows. Human beings take chances when committing to a spouse for the rest of their life, quitting their job in hopes to make more money in a different way, or even as little as buying a lottery ticket. One might say that they don’t take chances for fear of getting hurt, but I know for a fact that one would take a chance because of a possible positive end result. You cannot go through life and not take chances because there wouldn’t be any point in actually living. Since death is the ultimate ending to a human being, why not take a risk before you die? Living in chaos is almost a sense of tranquility in that it isn’t boring.

  1. Very well put, if you do not take chances in life then you are doing proven actions that have proven outcomes. You are now part of a robotic like society that does not try to experience things that might have a thrill to it. If you are not going to live life, then why not end it and make way for those who want to live a vibrant life. Almost like get busy living or gt busy with ending it. I do not support the thought of suicide in case anyone was thinking it. I do support the idea of seeking pleasure in life even if it as small as flying a kite. There are so many ways to live a happy life so it should not come to ending it.
